Intersections functions as a collage—both as a piece, and within certain movements. The opening movement jumps unexpectedly between wildly disparate ideas, all while ruminating on the opening chord through different iterations. The second provides a respite from the energy of the first. The third provides a healthy amount of comic relief with the bass clarinet, trumpet, and snare drum engaging in a lively conversation. The fourth movement mirrors the reflectiveness of the second. And the final movement refers back to to each preceding movement and serves highlight some of the connections between each of them.
