Bombastic/fragile

Written for Sarah Brady as part of the 2020 Cortona Sessions for New Music

Bombastic/Fragile is an exploration of opposites. The alto flutist is called on to vacillate between explosive material and quiet, reflective passages that dissect intimate sounds, especially harmonics. The alternation is governed by the proportions of Recamán’s Sequence with the quiet sections slowly expanding and subsuming the more violent sections, before dissolving in an aggressive collapse at the conclusion of the work.
