Composing in the Wilderness

In July of 2020 I travelled to Alaska with a group of eight other composers. We spent a week hiking in Denali National Park, making field recordings, and expereincing the isolated beauty of the park. Following our time in the park, we had three days to compose a piece that would then be performed at the final concert of the Fairbanks Summer Arts Festival.

Performed by the Corvus Ensemble, my piece explores the sounds of the park and tries to capture the kaleidoscopic effect of hearing the various sounds of the park migrate around your perceptual awareness.
